Beech Mountain Information

Beech Mountain is an incorporated town, operated by a Council/Manager form of government.  The town takes care of year-round maintenance of roads, weekly garbage collection, police and sewer systems.  Well-trained volunteers provide full-time fire protection and first response EMS services. The town staff also administers building codes, zoning ordinances, tax collection, and sign ordinances.

In addition to 14 of the highest ski slopes in eastern America, Beech Mountain also offers ice skating, sledding, ski kindergarten, a day nursery, and numerous restaurants.  Ski Beech has the only detachable quad lift (three times faster than standard lifts) and approximately 33% more snowmaking than any other southern slope.  In summer, an 18-hole championship golf course (the 2nd highest in eastern America) with long-range panoramic views, provides unequalled play.  The Beech Mountain Club also maintains complete tennis facilities, an Olympic size swimming pool, a large recreation building, a seventy – child day camp center, a large outdoor pavilion and year-round recreation staff located on their 13-acre recreation park.  The third club facility is a private ski lounge and parking area adjacent to the ski slopes.  A new 1.2 million dollar restaurant is located at the golf course looking down on two fairways, the driving range, and Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina mountains.  The town operates a 43-acre recreation park that includes a 7.5-acre lake stocked with trout, a children’s play area, softball field, indoor tennis courts, fitness center, indoor walking track, meeting area,  boat dock and picnic shelter.

Summer club activities include canoeing, bridge, daily exercise programs, day hikes & wildflower walks, golf & tennis tournaments and clinics, evening poolside dances, and daily excursion trips.
Our Chamber of Commerce holds fifteen annual festivals, including Sunday evening sunset concerts, a July 4th celebration with barbecue and fireworks, street dances, Jimmy Huega Ski Express, a very large craft festival and Autumn at Oz.
Purchase of most properties on Beech Mountain, be it a building site or an already completed home or townhouse, gives you automatic membership into the Beech Mountain Club.  Annual club dues are  nominal, and there is no initiation fee.
Temperatures at our higher elevations rarely reach 77 degrees, and highs are 10 degrees or more cooler than neighboring towns of Boone and Blowing Rock.

Our community is quite large, with over 6,000 acres (twice the size of Boone), boasting of over 68 miles of roads through 31 different subdivisions.  Only 25 acres is zoned commercial.  The rest of our town is entirely residential and recreational.

When you visit Beech Mountain, we will be able to work with all of the properties of the different offices in our community.  Our office is open six days a week.  Please call us for an appointment.
